Head of Business Information and Systems

Salary:  £59,691- £66,415 per annum, Grade 10

Location – Service Headquarters, Calcot, Reading

We are working hard to ensure we continue to deliver the highest standards for our community, staff and partners. We are also seeking to ensure that we are well placed to respond flexibly and innovatively to the significant challenges, facing a modern day Fire and Rescue Service.  The role of Head of Business Information and Systems is a senior role and member of the Strategic Leadership Team supporting the delivery of our Corporate Plan 2015-19. We are therefore seeking to appoint an individual of exceptional calibre to this vacancy.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the ICT and Information Governance function which supports multiple customers including operational crews, Thames Valley Fire Control and our core business to deliver a 365 days, 24 hour emergency service. The position requires a person with excellent customer focus and extensive service delivery experience.

The successful candidate will possess highly developed interpersonal skills, and be an enthusiastic innovator who will challenge the status quo with high professional standards and high degree of personal resilience that is required to work in an emergency service organisation.

The key focus of this role is:

  • To provide vision, direction and leadership in terms of ICT and Information Governance across the Service and to performance manage the function through the Corporate Business Planning Process.
  • To coordinate activity across the ICT function to ensure the efficient delivery of the ICT service i.e. that consistent quality standards are achieved, proper governance arrangements are in place and resources are optimised.
  • Develop and maintain a Service wide ICT Investment plan ensuring appropriate forward planning to meet organisational capacity and to ensure all investment in ICT meets Service priorities.
  • Ensure that the day to day ICT services are secure, robust and meet the needs of Services in terms of performance, availability and disaster recovery.
  • Manage the Service’s Information ensuring that all staff are aware of their responsibilities under Data Protection legislation and that staff are made regularly aware of their personal responsibilities to protect the security and confidentiality of data.

Key role requirements:

  • Excellent skills and experience in relationship management with customers, suppliers and staff at all levels
  • The ability to manage and co-ordinate complex environments with multiple parties
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player, maintaining self-motivation at all times
  • Available, dependable, responsive and committed to your customer
  • A high level of competence in written and verbal communications
  • Understanding of contractual requirements and obligations
  • Ability to deal with problems that arise and manage through to resolution.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Enthusiastic and energetic with a positive 'can do’ outlook
  • ITIL experience would be an advantage.
